Getting Around
Cala dOr is very similar to the rest of mallorca in the fact that it is easy to get around, and you have a number of choices.
The best option is to hire a car as this gives you the most freedom to explore the surrounding area and also the rest of the island. Cala dOr is around a 45 minute drive from Palma, the north of the island can be reached in just over an hour. If you choose to explore the island and head north you will drive right across the interior and will see the real Mallorca with its farming. Places certainly worth visiting are Pollensa, Formentor, Valldemossa, Soller, Cala Mondrago, Es Trenc.
If you choose not to hire a car, taxis are readily available in Cala dOr and are of a good standard and reliable. They are able to be booked by phone, and have a number of Taxi Ranks across the resort, with the main one being at the bottom of the pedestrian area in Cala dOr center. As a guide taxis from the airport to Cala dOr will cost around 75 euro.
Cala dOr also has the train which travels around the resort on a fixed route, this can be a good way to see the resort, it is cheap, but is a little slow.
HIRE CARS 2009 it must be mentioned that hire cars are in very short supply this year, so it is vital to book as soon as you know your travel dates, or you seriously risk being disappointed.
