Cala dOr Mallorca
Cala dOr Mallorca is without doubt one of the very finest
places to holiday in the Balearics, combing the very stylish Marina with
a near perfect family holiday resort. Its charm lies in the fact that the
resort is stylish without being pretentious, lively but never roudy. The
place to be seen without being too formal.
Cala dOr itself is an area that surrounds the 6 local calas,
that cover a distance along the coast of around 2 miles. The town centre
is compact and pedestrianised, with the interlocking streets lined with
restaurants, cafes and bars, and a small number of clubs.
If you are after a wild nightlife then Cala dOr will probably
not be your kind of holiday resort, but if you are after the sort of resort
where you can go out in the evening for a meal with your family or partner,
then perhaps onto a cocktail bar or chill out bar then Cala dDor certainly
will be.
The town is also well catered for in terms of supermarkets,
one large superstore in the central area and smaller stores located throughout
the resort, which are mainly Spar brand, and sell many products that you
will know from home, also a great place to stock up on any drinks for your
holiday relaxing, at prices cheaper than the UK, it also has the British
Supermarket, which is located just 2 minutes from the resort centre near
the Marina entrance that sells many UK products that are harder to find
in Mallorca. Cala dOr as you would expect also has petrol stations, and
one which is open 7 days per week, which is located next to the large Eroski
supermarket. Just the same as at home it is wise to check prices as they can vary, the large Eroski supermarket does offer the largest range of products and on the whols the best prices.
For travellers with young children, as we have been for many
years, as our Cala dOr friends will know ! we have never had a problem
getting the sort of products that you may need, the only issue may be baby
milk, whilst it is available, it will be a different brand to your normal,
so may be best to bring your own, nappies and similar are widely available. |
Cala dOr Beaches
Cala dOr is perfect for beach lovers, the resort is blessed
with 6 calas each with its own sand beach, crystal clear blue water and
fine soft white sand. The beaches vary in size, but none are large each
offering its own unique charm.

Great Weather All Year
Mallorca is blessed with seasons just like the UK, and as
such offers different aspects at different times of the year. Many people
just think of visiting Mallorca just in the peak summer months, but to
the regulars who visit Mallorca, and especially Cala dOr throughout the
year, the out of season months are some of the most special, deserted beaches,
meadows full of wild flowers, empty roads, and the peaceful laid back lifestyle.
The spring and autumn months are perfect for exploring the island, the
sun and warm temperatures make it perfect for cycling and walking or just
lazy days relaxing by the waters edge. |

Cala dor Town
Cala dOr town centre is perfect for families and couples alike,
it has a lively and friendly atmosphere, a great mix of shops, restaurants
and bars, always something to see or do. The main area is pedestrianised,
ideal for exploring or simply stopping to enjoy the atmosphere.
Eating out in Cala dOr can be as simple or as upmarket as
you choose, and as all Mallorca resorts there are restaurants that will
serve the normal holiday food, and children's meals can be found for as
little as 3 euros, but if you are looking for something a little better,
you will have plenty of choice, there are also fine dining restaurants
if you are looking for something special, a number of these are based around
the marina.
Currently there seems to be lots of talk on holiday forums about the cost of eating out , in Cala dOr there will be places to eat and drink that will cover every budget, knowing the island of Mallorca, I am sure that Cala dOr is no more expensive than any other resort.

The Local Area
Cala dOr is located on the South East of Mallorca, which most
people would be considered one of the quieter areas on the Island, far
enough away from the masses of resorts like Magluf and Palma Nova, but
not far away if you wish to explore the Island, you are just 50 minutes
from Palma Airport.
If you study the area on something like Google maps, the first
thing you will notice is that there are no big resorts nearby, just a selection
of small villages, many working fishing ports, full of small local boats
often with just one man aboard. The area is also peppered with small Calas,
amazing white sandy beaches, with rock outcrops covered with pine trees,
often down to the waters edge. Many of these Calas are a little off the
beaten track, so may well need a little finding, but well worth the effort.
These are located in an area of around 10 miles either side of Cala dOr,
not far, so the little ones will not drive you mad in the car whilst travelling.
If you are happy to travel a little further afield, around a 30 minute
drive away you will find the simply stunning beach of Es Trenc, it has
the be seen to be believed. |
